My computer has been down for a week, but I’m using one at the library, and had this piece already written last week - but there won’t be any audio - I’ll add audio later as time permits.
To give credit where credit is due, the following 3 paragraphs are excerpted from Thomas Shepstone’s Energy Security and Freedom substack of 1/25/25. He in turn was quoting John Ridgway’s article titled ‘The Scourge of Prosocial Censorship.’, which was being reposted by the extremely qualified climate scientist Judith Curry. And now I’m picking up on the trail, because it rings such a resounding bell. I’ll add a few thoughts of my own.
“Professor Lennart Bengtsson, the former head of research at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts before becoming its director until 1990. He had then moved on to become director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg. Amongst his many accolades he had been awarded the Milutin Milankovic Medal in 1996, the René Descartes Prize for Collaborative Research in 2005, and the 51st International Meteorological Organization Prize of the World Meteorological Organization in 2006. In 2009 he was made an honorary fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society in recognition of his contribution to meteorology…
…Earlier that same year a paper, in which he had the temerity to suggest that the projected warming was unlikely to be anywhere near as bad as others had maintained, was rejected by the scientific journal Environmental Research Letters on the basis that his findings were “less than helpful“…
…What Bengtsson had in fact been subjected to is prosocial censorship. It is a form of censorship in which work is rejected, and individuals cancelled, not because the work is substandard or flawed, but because it threatens to undermine a cherished ideology…”
The topic of censorship is very important, because it bears directly on today’s problem of trying to figure out what is true and what is not, in this mind-blowing day of blizzards of information. If access to information is controlled and suppressed by censorship, it becomes a method of global mind control, brainwashing the majority and becoming an evil political force.
Fortunately, truth will always come to light in the end. But unfortunately, much harm is done while the truth is suppressed. Innocent people are persecuted, cancelled, fined, and jailed. Government policies are geared toward more power and control than on any actual unbiased scientific basis.
In science, well qualified voices are suppressed if they don’t kow-tow to the politically correct narrative of those in high places.
What is especially damaging and discouraging is when other scientists buckle under the pressure and then turn on their own compatriots. They know better, but are afraid of losing their jobs or their financial grants. Some are given financial support from corporations or government agencies. In other words, to a large extent, money or the fear of losing it is the influencer. Moral corruption is the result. Data is fudged or carefully selected and filtered to prove what they want it to prove. Experiments are set up to find results they want to find, and if those results aren’t found, reports are thrown in the trash can.
Censorship is not new, of course. But it’s much worse and more pervasive than it used to be, unless you look at a few historical examples, like the former Soviet Union and various communist dictatorships, where censorship even took the form of death by execution in some cases.
I first became aware of the suppression of unpopular ideas shortly after I became a Christian. I happen to come across some information that wasn’t taught in public school or college - now I realize it was suppressed. I had been taught that evolution was a ‘scientific fact’. The huge flaws in the ‘theory’ of evolution (it’s really only a hypothesis - totally unproven) could only be told in self-published articles and books, because the mainstream “peer-reviewed” scientific journals wouldn’t publish anything that questioned their pet ‘theory’. Before the internet, those self-published books were hard to find.
I just ran across another story on the fudging of so-called scientific data last week, while reading about Y chromosome DNA research.
It's a Sad Day For Science
Update 6/20/24 - I’m inserting a lead paragraph on how DEI is another destroyer of true science. This is from an UNSKOOL article about the undermining of university science programs. “He [Gad Saad, a Canadian professor] also mentioned how many grants often required applicants to submit a DEI statement. Anyone who decides to push back may not receive fun…
Peer Reviews Block Contrary Scientific Papers
plus updates on so-called vaccines, Russia’s military strategy, failing EV buses, nuclear power, Ukraine war, Target’s store closures in Portland Oregon, bitcoin, woke bank rug-pulling that hurt Mike Lindell the ‘Pillow Man’, the balance between self-reliance and depending on God,
Academics Push Back Against Censorship
fudged statistics, research fraud, political ideology, faked papers, compromised news media, the near impossibility of getting non-consensus views published, the unreliability of peer review, and the solution - self publishing
As with holes in the ‘theory’ of evolution, we see the truth about ‘climate change’ suppressed.
Suppression of truth, like in the Emporer Has No Clothes story, really got absolutely ridiculous when millions of people actually started to think there are more than 2 genders. When even a 3 year old child can see the truth, that there are just 2 sexes, but adults can’t, that’s real brain-washing. Who would ever have thought that it could go that far?
