Coal is a lot safer to transport coal then than liquid energy products.

Very good point! And we have enough coal to produce energy for hundreds of years - a shame to waste it.

That alone is a worthy of a detailed essay! Rail and barge are not only safe but energy efficient transit methods. As you know, coal can also be liquified for transport pipe, but a lot of energy would go into the process. Too bad the coal steam turbine locomotives did not take off now we have the technology to burn it clean. And there is coal gasification, etc.
