There was a bible study in a small town in upstate NY that included folks from the Catholic church, the Methodist, the Lutheran, and the Presbyterian. They came to studying the book of Acts together and pretty soon they were all baptizing each other in a local pond.

I forgot that I had read this already. I still think you spelled it out for all of us.

I read your link at the end of this column. There are so many so-called Christian churches who are baptizing not only because of Mark 16:16, but as it states on many of their websites, because "we should follow the example of Christ who was also baptized". Nowhere do they mention remission of sins. Their understanding of being baptized "into" Christ is very weak. The lack of understanding results in many churches accepting other false teaching in churches because "at least they baptize people." I am so thankful I was taught about baptism and its significance!

Great to hear, Carolyn. Thanks for the comment. I don’t remember if I mentioned Acts 22:16, but it reinforces what you’re saying.

“And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’

It’s interesting that in the first account of Saul’s conversion, in chapter 9, it just says “…he got up and was baptized”. Yet here in ch.22 we get more detail. I love the phrase “…and wash your sins away”.
